Information

Eczema:

The type of eczema that affects people of an allergic disposition is called either atopic eczema or atopic dermatitis.

People with atopic eczema are far more susceptible to everyday irritants such as soap, traces of detergent left behind in clothes, wool and synthetic fabrics.

Some pollutants such as fumes from traffic, gas cookers, household cleaning sprays, formaldehyde from textiles, chipboard and MDF also play a part in atopic eczema.

Other things which can irritate the skin and make atopic eczema flare up include:

solvents or chemicals in the home
clothes or shoes which trap sweat
dust mites
tobacco smoke
skin contact with fruit (especially citrus), vegetables, and sometimes other foods

Asthma:

Reducing exposure to those allergens and irritants which trigger your attacks is an important step in asthma management. Among the most common of these are the allergen found in fly spray, air freshener or other aerosols, the droppings of the dustmite, cigarette smoke & pollen.

Did you know?

Domestic pollution causes more environmental damage than industrial pollution.
The chemicals used in non-environmentally friendly household cleaners are 3 times more likely to cause cancer than other air pollutants.
Eczema in children is commonly caused by chemicals which are left behind after washing clothes (washing powder, fabric conditioner, bleach, optical brightener).
Phosphates promote the growth of algae so much that water becomes starved of oxygen, killing fish and plant life.
Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS): the extremely harmful compound 1,4 dioxane may be created during manufacture, contaminating the product. 1,4 dioxane was one of the principal components of the chemical defoliant Agent Orange, used to by the Americans during the Vietnam War to strip off the jungle canopy to reveal their enemy.
Enzymes are living organisms in non environmentally friendly biological washing powders. They can and do cause severe skin irritations and asthmatic attacks.
Chlorine bleaches: during the breakdown of these types of bleach (which are akin to the banned pesticide D.D.T. & Cyanic Acid) carcinogenic, toxic substances are formed. You can also get a nasty chemical burn from bleach.
Formaldehyde: Traditionally used to preserve corpses, formaldehyde is used to prolong the life of many conventional products!
Glycerine: Unless specifically stated that it is from a vegetable source, glycerin or glycerine will be obtained from the rendered carcasses of dead animals.
Lanolin: Extracted from the processed wool from both dead and live animals.
Sodium Tallowate: Made of water, caustic soda & rendered fat of dead animals.
Titanium Dioxide: Colouring agent, causes pollution in estuaries.
